The basic philosophy of SAIL for development of sports focuses on sporting young talent with the idea of catching them young. And imparting training to raise them to national and international standards and promoting promising talents by awarding scholarships

The Steel townships of SAIl  have an impressive sports infrastructure like grounds, indoors and out door courts, tracks, pools gymnasia and stadia conforming to national and international standards

SAIL Steel is also being used in the upgradation of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, National Stadium, and the Talkatora Stadium in order to make them at par with world-class standards for hosting various national and international events.
