SAS 2008: Brave India goes down to Argentina (5/18/2008)
--K. Arumugam
India matched Argentina in every departmetnt, yet a wily forward in Mario Almda did India in.

Indians were a bit physical, opportunistics, piercives as that of the Argentineans and troubled them many times, came close to scoring but the scoreboard got stuck after 14 minutes.

When Sandeep Singh scored his ninth goal in the 11th minute and then Mario Almada equalized it three minutes later, it appeared there will be more goals to come from the both determined sides. when they met a week ago, the match witnessed six goal. After 20 minutes of aggressive hockey both teams sounded caution, kept an eye on counter attcks and set pieces. First 20 minutes were awesome in the sense both teams were aggressive, abusive of umpires and took enormous risk of on the run tackling, clashing and yelling

As a result, the score board was stagnant. Sandeep had three more opportunites to go for his tenth goal but once rival goalkeeper Juan Manuel blocked it, after that in another attempt his ground push just missed the right corner.

The crowd was full fitting the occasion, there were usual dhol sounds from the ethnic Indians, and there cannot be a better setting for India to excel. They did the crowd proud displaying a hockey of character, easily the best match India played here. But the luck was not there.

when they again entered the field for first extra tiome, the ball got stuck up in their citadel. India even conceded a penalty corner this time, but Adrian D'Souza has taken care of it.

But in the ensued corner, Mario Almada repeated the same act which he did in the 14th minute of the game.

He got his side the golden goal, and then the usual sight of how the Pan American celebrate sporting victories

They formed the pyramid, every photographers delight, came round the stadium. After Carlos Retegui took over the coaching this was their first major tournament and he got the reward very early as well.

SV Sunil and Shivender Singh combined well today, Gurbaj did some athletic run downs, for a change captain Sardar Singh manoevred a lot with purpose. Diwakar and Sandeep did well in the deefence.

From left flank SV sunil and Shivender really rattled the Argentineans. If even then there was no goal from them, it was due to the fact that the finish was not there.

Argentina was not expert at the finish, but had with them the set piece drills. That their both goals come from the freehit deflection speak for the veracity of the fact

This is an young team and can only go up from here.
