Surjit Cup: Army XI entered the semi finals (11/3/2015)

Army XI entered the semi finals after beating Punjab Police by 3-2 Indian Air Force beat CRPF Delhi by 7-3 Jalandhar November 2, 2015 :Army XI edged out Punjab Police Jalandhar 3-2 to enter the semifinal of the 32nd Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Cu0.

In other match Indian Air Force registered their first victory over CRPF Delhi 7-3.

First match of the day was played between Indian Air Force and CRPF.Airmen dominated the proceeding from the start. They took early lead in 9th and 13th minute of the play when their Harwant Singh converted two penalty corners (2-0). In 15th minute Air Force consolidated with the conversion of penalty corner by Amanpreet Singh (3-0). In the 28th and 29th minutes of the match Airforce scored two goals the scorers were Sanwar and Harwant Singh (5-0). In the 35th minute of the play Airforce’s Varinder Singh scored the field goal (HT 6-0).

After lemon break in 52nd minute of the play CRPF able to reduce the margin by field goal scored by Rabindra Kujur (1-6). In 52nd minute Sanwar scored the field goal from left flank for Air Force (7-1). In 58th minute CRPF once again able to reduce margin when their Saroj Ekka converted the penalty corner (2-7). In 62nd minute Amritver Singh converted penalty corner (3-7).

In the second match Punjab Police Jalandhar and Army XI displayed good hockey. In the 20th minute of the play Armymen took lead with penalty corner conversion by Chandan Aind (1-0). Two minutes later Police bounce back their Amit Sandhu equalized with field goal from right flank (1-1). Police Goalkeeper Rajbir Singh made good saves to protect Armymen to get lead. At half time both teams were leveled at 1-1.

In the 39th minute Army mounted pressure, Binay Bhangra struck a field goal (2-1). In 45th minute Punjab Police made counter attack with their Lovepreet Singh sounding the board from the left flank (2-2). In 51st minute Army’s Viswa Thakur netted the ball after dodging police defender (3-2). 3rd November matches Punjab & Sind Bank Vs RCF Kapurthala: 4.30 PM; Indian Oil Mumbai Vs Indian Air Force – 5.45 PM
